Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025: The administration has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Mahakumbh fair and unprecedented security arrangements have been made in the fair area as well as Prayagraj city and nearby places.
A symbol of India's eternal culture, spirituality and faith, the Mahakumbh Mela has started in Sangamnagari Prayagraj from today. Today is the Amrit Snan of Paush Purnima. Since morning, devotees are taking a dip in the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati (invisible) river. It is being told that today about 1 crore devotees will take a dip in the Ganga. At the same time, the first royal bath will be on the day of Makar Sankranti. Mahakumbh is considered to be the largest fair in the world, in which 45 crore devotees including sadhus and saints are expected to come from various parts of the country and abroad. All the akhadas who have come to the Mahakumbh will do Kalpavas on the banks of Sangam from today. As per the rules, the Juna Akhara will take the royal bath first. After this, one by one all the Akharas will take a dip of faith in the Triveni Sangam. The administration has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Mahakumbh Mela and unprecedented security arrangements have been made in the fair area as well as Prayagraj city and surrounding places.

1. Mahakumbh Mela is held once every 12 years. Saints, sadhus and devotees from all over the world take a dip of faith in Mahakumbh. Shahi Snan has special significance in this religious event, which is also called Amrit Snan. It is believed that taking a dip in holy rivers during Shahi Snan atones for sins and attains virtue. Amrit Snan brings people closer to spirituality.
2. The Mahakumbh Mela of Prayagraj is spread over about 4000 hectares of land and is divided into 25 sectors. The Uttar Pradesh government has declared the Mahakumbh Mela area as the 76th district of the state. This year's Maha Kumbh is considered very auspicious, because according to astrologers, a rare combination of planets is being formed after 144 years. On this day, the auspicious position of the planets Sun, Moon, Saturn and Jupiter is being formed. It is being told that such a rare astronomical coincidence was formed during the Samudra Manthan. 3. For the Maha Kumbh, the administration has prepared a total of 41 ghats on the Sangam coast. Of these, 10 are permanent ghats, while the remaining 31 ghats are temporary. Sangam Ghat is the most prominent and important ghat of Prayagraj. Here the confluence of three holy rivers - Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati (invisible) takes place. That is why it is also known as Triveni Ghat.
4. Akharas are the main center of attraction in Maha Kumbh. Akharas were started by Adi Shankaracharya. It is said that he had formed organizations of sadhus skilled in the art of weapons to protect Sanatan. Currently there are a total of 13 Akharas, which are divided into three categories - Shaiva, Vaishnava and Udasi. There are a total of 7 akhadas of the Shaiva sect, their followers worship Lord Shiva. There are 3 akhadas of the Vaishnava sect, their followers worship Lord Vishnu and his incarnations. There are 3 akhadas of the Udasi sect, their followers worship 'Om'. Om is a symbol of eternal power.
5. This time around 45 crore devotees are expected to come to the Maha Kumbh. Devotees coming not only from all over the country but from all over the world will take a dip in the Sangam. Different colors and forms of sadhus, saints, Naga Babas are being seen in the Maha Kumbh fair. Some are overwhelming with their unique feats in Peshwai, while some are in the news due to their unique resolutions, vows and Hatha Yoga.
6. The first royal bath in Maha Kumbh 2025 will be on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. On this day, an estimated 7 crore devotees are expected to take a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam. Other dates of royal bath in Maha Kumbh are 'Mauni Amavasya' on 29 January, 'Basant Panchami' on 3 February, 'Maghi Purnima' on 12 February and 'Mahashivratri' on 26 February. Maha Kumbh will conclude with the royal bath on the day of Mahashivratri.
7. Apart from a central hospital, a 20-bed hospital has also been built in each sector to provide quick medical facilities to the saints and devotees in any adverse situation. More than 300 divers have been deployed at all the ghats to deal with any emergency during bathing. Many water ambulances have also been deployed. 7-tier security arrangements have been made in Maha Kumbh with the deployment of NSG commandos and UP police personnel.
8. AI-powered cameras, drones and anti-drone systems have been installed for effective crowd management and monitoring in the Maha Kumbh fair. Apart from spotters, 15 thousand civil police personnel have been deployed to keep an eye on suspicious people in the Maha Kumbh. 102 checkpoints have been set up on 7 major routes to monitor and control the entry points of the fair area. 113 drones have been deployed to ensure security and monitor the Sangam and its surrounding waterways.
9. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state officials estimate that Maha Kumbh 2025 could contribute Rs 25,000 crore to government revenue. This could result in economic benefits of Rs 2 trillion. The event is expected to benefit local self-help groups, artisans, hoteliers, homestay owners, restaurant operators and food vendors. Major brands like Dabur, Mother Dairy and ITC are estimated to spend Rs 3,000 crore.
10. To help pilgrims identify their location and lodge complaints related to power issues, more than 50,000 QR codes have been installed on electricity poles in the Maha Kumbh Mela area spread across 25 sectors, a minister of the Uttar Pradesh government said. Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister AK Sharma said that more than 50,000 QR codes have been installed on electricity poles, which will make it easier for devotees to determine their location within the Mela area.
11. Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that more than 15 lakh foreign tourists are expected to visit the Maha Kumbh. He said that the Ministry of Tourism has set up a tent city providing facilities like Ayurveda, Yoga and Panchkarma keeping in mind the foreign guests. 'Kalagram' has been built on 10 acres in Sector 7 of Maha Kumbh, where Indian cultural heritage will be displayed.
12. 12. Kalagram will be one of the main attractions of the Mahakumbh fair, which will feature various cultural performances. It will have a grand entrance gate with replicas of Char Dham, 12 Jyotirlingas, an Anant Kumbh exhibition and 7 cultural courtyards showcasing the diversity of the country. More than 230 artisans will showcase the traditional art of India. Events will be organized at various places including Kalagram, Ganga Pandal, Jhunsi, Nagvasuki and Arail over the next 45 days.
13. The fair administration estimates that the maximum 21% people are likely to reach Mahakumbh from Jaunpur route, while 18% devotees will come from Rewa and Banda route. Similarly, 16% devotees can come from Varanasi route, 14% from Kanpur route, 12% from Mirzapur route. 10% people are expected to come from Lucknow route and 9% from Pratapgarh route. There are mainly 7 routes for entry into Prayagraj. People coming by bus and private vehicle will reach Sangam through these routes.
14. Maha Kumbh District Administration has built a total of 102 small and big parking lots in the fair area. Out of these, 70% parking lots are within a radius of 5 km from the bathing ghat. The remaining 30% parking lots are within a radius of 5 to 10 km. There are 24 satellite parking lots, out of which 18 have been built in the fair area and 6 in Prayagraj city. Drinking water, toilets, first aid, public address system are available here.
15. Indian Railways has started 3000 special trains for Maha Kumbh. These trains will make more than 13 thousand trips. Apart from Prayagraj Junction, 8 sub-stations have been built. These sub-stations have been divided into three zones of Railways - North Central Railway, Northern Railway and North Eastern Railway. Trains of Kanpur, Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Satna, Jhansi route will stop at Prayagraj Junction and will leave from here for return. Routine trains coming from Satna, Jhansi and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya stations will be stopped at Naini and Chheoki junctions. Special trains coming for Maha Kumbh on important bathing days will also be stopped at Naini and Chheoki junctions.
